Privacy Policy
How Astro handles your information. Plain language first, details below.
The short version
- Astro is a private app for your friend groups. There are no ads and we never sell your data.
- Only people in your groups see your name, status and messages there. Your email stays private.
- Astro does not track your location.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time, and your data is deleted with it.
Who we are
Astro ("Astro", "we", "us") is a product of Astro Social, a business of Carlisle Capital LLC, a Florida limited liability company. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Astro app and website at astrosocial.io, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, your password (stored only as a secure scrambled version we cannot read), and the name you choose to show friends.
- What you add to Astro: groups you create or join, messages, event plans and RSVPs, reminders, your status (for example "Free today") and when it ends, which people you keep in your orbit, people you block, and reports you file. When photo sharing and bill splitting arrive, this includes the photos you share and the amounts and payment notes you enter.
- Basic technical information: our hosting providers keep standard logs, such as IP address, browser or device type and the time of a request, to keep the service running and secure.
We do not collect your location, your contacts list, or your bank login. If you later choose to link a bank through Plaid, you sign in with your bank inside Plaid, and Astro never sees your bank password.
How we use it
- To run Astro: show your messages, plans and status to the people in your groups.
- To send account emails, such as your confirmation code and password reset code.
- To keep people safe: review reports, act on abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- To fix problems and improve Astro.
We do not use your messages for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your personal information.
Who can see what
- People in your groups see your name, your status, and what you post in groups you share with them.
- Direct messages are visible only to you and the other person.
- Your orbit list, your blocks and your reports are visible only to you. People are not told when you block or report them.
- Your email address is never shown to other members.
Companies that help us run Astro
We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: database, sign in and file storage (servers in the United States).
- Resend: sending account emails.
- Cloudflare: domain name services.
- GitHub Pages: hosting the astrosocial.io website and web app files.
- Expo and Apple: delivering push notifications once the phone app is available.
We may share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account (You tab, then Delete account), we delete your profile, your messages, your direct messages and the rest of your account data right away. Groups you ran are handed to another member. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Change your name or password in the You tab.
- Clear your status at any time, or let it expire on its own.
- Block or report anyone from their profile or from a message.
- Delete your account in the app.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask any privacy question, at support@astrosocial.io.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as the right to access, correct or delete your data. Contact us and we will help.
Children
Astro is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Every table in our database has access rules so members can only reach data from their own groups. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
